Help Your Vehicles Air Conditioning

If possible try parking in the shade, or using a sun screen in your windshield will help reduce the heat absorbed in your vehicle. When you get into your vehicle roll down a few windows then drive a few minutes to let the hot air blow out as much as you can. The way your vehicles air condition system works it absorbs heat from inside then passes it off in the condenser located at the front grill area in most vehicles.

The condenser can also be restricted by bugs, and other road trash getting caught in the cooling fins. Inspect this area in and around your radiator when you wash your vehicle. Rinsing bugs out will help lower the temperature of the air coming out of the ducts in the dash. Be careful if you use a high pressure water stream not to bend over the fins in the condenser or the radiator.

If your air condition system still doesn't perform as expected seek a qualified repair center to diagnose the cause of the problem. In the past Freon leaks were the main cause of problems but most today's vehicles have computer assisted systems making it more difficult, and expensive to have systems repaired.

Here's a few things that can cause problems in you vehicles air conditions system:

  • Freon , or refrigerant oil leaks
  • Improper belt tension or condition
  • Cooliing fans electric or belt driven
  • Poorly operating cooling systems
  • Restricted flow from cabin air filters
  • Electronic switches, sensors, and control motors
  • Computer programing

A regular checkup and reduce or eliminate some of these problems. A annual inspection should be the minimum inspection interval for a vehicle you plan to  keep.
